We are incredibly proud of our First Grade Matcha – a product that simply had to be created because Fajah, the founder of Killerbody, uses it every day. Her enthusiasm for the power of matcha inspired us to bring the very best quality to the market.

But what truly makes a good ceremonial grade matcha exceptional? The answer is simple: it comes from the first harvest. Here’s what you need to know about our matcha:

What makes the first harvest so special?

Our ceremonial grade matcha is made from the first harvest of young tea leaves. These are grown in shaded conditions, making them rich in chlorophyll and antioxidants. The result? An intensely bright green color, a smooth taste, and zero bitterness.

During the second harvest, older, less delicate leaves are used. This results in a duller color and a bitter aftertaste. Not what you’re looking for, right? That’s why we only choose the finest leaves from the first harvest.

How do you prepare Ceremonial Grade Matcha?

Preparing matcha is a small ritual that makes your day special:

Measure 2 grams of matcha with a bamboo scoop (chashaku).

Add a small amount of water at 70 degrees Celsius and whisk it with a bamboo whisk until a foam layer forms.

Top up with more water. Want a matcha latte? Add milk, but remember: this breaks your fast.

Fajah’s Tip

“I use ceremonial grade matcha daily, and it’s my absolute go-to to feel strong, energetic, and healthy. My tip? Take it on an empty stomach, with just water, and make it a daily ritual. That’s how you truly feel the perfect result!”

Matcha is a finely ground green tea from Japan, where you drink the entire tea leaf instead of just an extract, as with regular tea. As a result, matcha contains significantly higher concentrations of antioxidants, vitamins, and active plant compounds.

Matcha contains EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), a powerful green tea antioxidant. Antioxidants help with:

 • protecting body cells against oxidative stress
 • supporting healthy skin
 • natural protection against aging

Matcha can contain up to 137 times more EGCG than standard green tea.

Matcha contains caffeine in combination with L-theanine, a natural amino acid from tea leaves. This combination provides:

 • a sustained, even energy boost without peaks and troughs
 • improved focus and concentration
 • a relaxed yet alert state, with less jitters than coffee

In Japan, matcha is traditionally used by Zen monks during meditation due to these properties.

EGCG from matcha is associated in studies with:

 • supporting metabolism*
 • stimulating thermogenesis (heat production during exertion)
 • more efficient use of fat as an energy source

These properties make matcha interesting within a healthy lifestyle and athletic goals.

Matcha naturally contains:

 • vitamin C (supports the immune system)
 • vitamin A (important for skin, eyes, and mucous membranes)
 • potassium (plays a role in blood pressure and fluid balance)
 • chlorophyll (supports natural cleansing at the cellular level)

Because matcha consists of whole tea leaves, it contains natural dietary fibers that contribute to:

 • a healthy gut flora

Matcha is rich in antioxidants (catechins such as EGCG), which help protect body cells from oxidative stress.

Frequently asked questions about Ceremonial Grade

The answer is simple: from the first harvest.

Our ceremonial-grade matcha is made from the first flush of young tea leaves, grown under shaded conditions. The result? An intense bright green color, a smooth flavor, and zero bitterness.

The second harvest uses older, less delicate leaves. This results in a duller color and a bitter aftertaste. Not what you're looking for, right? That's why we only select the best leaves from the first harvest.

Preparing matcha is a small ritual that makes your day special:

 1. Measure 2 grams of matcha with a bamboo spatula (chashaku).
 2. Add a little bit of water at a temperature of 70 degrees and beat it with a whisk until a foam layer forms.
 3. Top up with more water. Want a matcha latte? Add milk, but remember: this will break you down.

Store the matcha in a cool, dry, and dark place, preferably in the refrigerator. Close the packaging tightly after use to prevent oxidation.

No, the Killerbody ceremonial grade matcha from the first flush has no bitter aftertaste. Its smooth taste makes it pleasant to drink, even without adding milk or sugar.

Ceremonial grade matcha comes from the first harvest of leaves and has a smooth, full-bodied flavour. Culinary grade comes from later harvests and is more bitter. Killerbody exclusively uses ceremonial grade.

We recommend 2 grams of matcha per serving. Measure this with a bamboo scoop (chashaku) for the best taste experience.
